Baldar was born the fifth son of a middle class Norse Farmer, near the small town of Vinka. He was born early and was a sickly child, but grew taller then his four other brothers, though not nearly as muscular. His brothers named him Longstrider as a joke due to his penchant for walking quickly. Others called him Bald-Face as he wore his hair short and beardless as the Roman ancients which he greatly admired. As all Norse children he learned Axe, sword, and spear as fighting was indeed a way of life at this time. Whe he was just fifteen he joined as a crew member of a ship a Viking under Ragnar Hardrada, and saw some practical combat as well as amassing some wealth to fund the building of his own ship, "The Raven". Following his grandfather's advice he made the line pleasing to the eye to attract a crew and spent a youth in small but prductive raids. This brought him to the attention to a larger and larger retinue till quite a force was assembled mostly through luck and cunning, for the Norse believed that luck was as much a fact of a man's being as height or hair color, and Baldar was lucky. He set out with his war band and carved out a small piece of the Danelaw in what is not England, setting each of the Lords up with land and farms. For the rest of his life, he would venture forth with his war-band and take advantage of the unsettled nature of the world at this time. Many Kings came from his line, and rose to power...but that is another story.
