Brakkus was born in 966 AD to a poor Rus farmer and his wife. He was an only child and was made to work in the fields and tend to the animals.As a child and young man he would steal away to perform as a clown or pupeteer at the local theatre. He learned stage combat and sword play there. When the his fathers farm was in ruin he took up the sword and joined the Byzantine mercenary army as a Varingian.
