Born of Ogadai, the youngest son of a minor clan leader and Yesui, Jagatai was the youngest of seven children. Expecting fierce competition from his siblings for control of the family properties, Jagatei instead decided he would find his way in the army, and spent his younger years practicing with the weapons of the warrior. On his 15th birthday, the call came for an army to conquer the Qin to the east, and Jagatai's father gave him an old worn suit of leather armour to take into battle. Jagatai learned the arts of war in China and later was given a small command to attack Riazan and Kiev in Russia. He now finds himself in Poland fighting with a small expiditionary force under Subadai the Bahadur hoping to build personal wealth and fame by his skills on the battle field.
